CNN founder advocates UN take role as global policeman

During an appearance on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight, Ted Turner said he thinks it’s “good” that U.S. soldiers are killing themselves because it shows humanity has evolved a distaste for war.

Asked what he thought about the fact that more American soldiers commit suicide than are killed in combat, host Morgan said it was “shocking,” but Turner responded, “No, I think it’s good.”

Turner went on to argue that it was time for people to start acting “enlightened” and that this was why it was “good” U.S. soldiers are committing suicide in such large numbers because it shows an aversion to war.

At first, Turner smirked and appeared as if he was about to say it’s “terrific” that U.S. soldiers are killing themselves, before using the word “good” instead and adopting a sterner facial expression.

As the New York Times reported earlier this year, U.S. soldiers are killing themselves at a rate of nearly one per day and the figure continues to rise. Reasons for the suicides include the stress caused by such a high number of deployments as well as the horrors troops have witnessed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A recent poll of soldiers who had tried to commit suicide found that the top reason for them attempting to take their own life was “intense emotional distress.”

Turner was also asked by the host who he thought should replace the United States as the world’s policeman, to which he responded, “the United Nations.”

Some have argued that Turner is expressing his satisfaction at U.S. troops killing themselves because it indicates that humanity is starting to spiritually evolve a distaste for war.

However, Turner has repeatedly voiced his wish to see billions of people wiped off the planet via population reduction programs.

Ted Turner’s satisfaction at U.S. troops committing suicide takes on a different context when you understand that Turner is a neo-eugenicist who routinely advocates massive population reduction.

“A total population of 250-300 million people, a 95% decline from present levels, would be ideal,” Turner stated in 1996.

In the third world, Turner has contributed a billion dollars to fund population reduction, namely through United Nations programs.

While asserting that the rest of the world should impose China’s brutal one-child policy to ‘save the planet’, Turner himself has 5 children and owns no less than 2 million acres of land. He is the largest private landowner on the planet, falling short of only the royal families of Europe.

Turner’s call for the United Nations to become a dictatorial body under the banner of global peacekeeping is suspect given that the UN itself admitted responsibility for failing to act during the 1994 Rwanda genocide during which 800,000 people were killed.

The United Nations is also riddled with corruption and has tried to impose mass gun control by stealth under the guise of its Small Arms Treaty.

I-Team: Woman Says TSA Agent Stole Jewels At Logan Airport

BOSTON (CBS) – Terri Ivester was on her way to a family christening in Chicago when she ran into a snag at the security checkpoint at Logan Airport.

Terri Ivester says, “The TSA agent holds my backpack up, and um, says there’s a water bottle in this backpack, I’m going to have to take that.”

That’s when Ivester says the agent left the area with her bag.

George Nacara, who is head of the TSA at Logan, tells the I-Team that passengers have the right to stay with their bags.

Ivester says she continued through the security checkpoint and she never gave it another thought until she got dressed for the christening.

“I’m ready to put on my jewelry and I can’t find it,” she says.

She realized she was missing four pieces including a single strand of pearls and a double strand bracelet totaling $3,700.

“It had gone through the scanner, I think they saw the jewels and took them,” says Ivester.

The Transportation Security Administration recently revealed that 382 of its agents have been fired for theft in the past ten years.

According to Nacara, six TSA agents have been fired from Logan out of the thousands hired. He says Logan’s high-tech security camera system closely monitors checkpoints and is often used to resolve cases of theft.

But there is a catch. The tapes are only saved for 30 days and Ivester says she lost time initially filing her complaint with police. By the time she made her claim with TSA it was too late.

The I-Team also analyzed thousands of reports of stolen items nationwide, laptops, watches, currency and jewelry. Since 2011 – more than $60,000 worth of claims were filed in Boston. TSA reimbursed less than $3,000.

Not surprising to Nacara, who says closed circuit cameras often reveal items are stolen by other passengers.

Still the Airline Passenger Rights Association warns travelers a series of recent TSA firings means there’s plenty of reason for concern.

The TSA’s advice: While they are watching you with your cameras, you should keep a close eye on your belongings.

Were CIA agents ordered to “stand down” during Benghazi Embassy attack that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens?

CIA agents in Benghazi twice asked for permission to help Ambassador Chris Stevens as bullets were flying and twice were told to ‘stand down’

  • Revelations shed new light on the effectiveness of the CIA at Benghazi and the level of support they were given
  • When the CIA annex come under attack the field agents were denied a request for military help despite a counter terrorism team being two hours away in Italy
  • There was full communication between operatives on the ground and headquarters – with the ability to laser guide drones, planes or special forces to enemy targets

It has been claimed that CIA agents on the ground during the deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi twice asked for permission to help Ambassador Chris Stevens and twice were told to stand down.

Furthermore sources present during the deadly six-hour assault have said that a desperate last request for military assistance once the CIA themselves came under attack was denied, even though elite counter-terrorism units were only two hours away.

And it has been claimed there was full communication between the CIA annex in Benghazi and the U.S. military, casting further doubts on the Obama administration’s assertion that there wasn’t enough information to deploy forces – deepening the crisis over their handling of the attack on September 11th and its aftermath

Revelations: Washington was told within 24 hours of last month's deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate that there was evidence it was carried out by militants, not a spontaneous mob upset about ridiculing Islam's Prophet MuhammadRevelations: It has been claimed today that CIA operatives at the Benghazi consulate compound repeatedly had their requests for help denied during the deadly assault on September 11

The lethal assault which led to the death of Ambassador Stevens and three other U.S. citizens began at 9.40 p.m. as the U.S Consulate came under fire from hostile Libyan forces.

According to Fox News, ex-Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods, who was part of a small team at the CIA annex about a mile from the consulate, asked his superiors if he could go and assist the embattled diplomatic compound.

However, they were told to ‘stand down’ and according to sources who spoke to the news channel were told to ‘stand down’ again after asking for a second time to help Ambassador Stevens and his staff.

Ignoring these orders, Woods and two others heroically made their way to the consulate which by now was ablaze and began firing on the attackers.

Knowledge: It is unclear who, if anyone, saw the cable outside the CIA at that point and how high up in the agency the information wentKnowledge: It is unclear who denied the requests of the CIA for special forces teams

The quick reaction force which Woods was part of helped an evacuation of the main building and recovered the body of State Department staff member Sean Smith who had died in the initial attack.

However, the team from the CIA annex could not locate Ambassador Stevens and returned to their own base at around midnight where they came under attack themselves.

Immediately calling for assistance from Sigonella Air base in Italy which is two hours away, it is claimed that two separate special operations teams and air support were told to wait – despite the gun battle raging for four hours.

It is not known who denied the request for help for the CIA operatives on the ground at Benghazi.

If true these claims will radically change the perception of the field agents who were operating on the ground in Benghazi.

Previously criticised for providing inadequate security for the consulate staff, the new information shows intelligence operatives repeatedly tried to assist and in fact were denied their own requests for outside help.

Refuting the Defense Secretary Leon Panetta’s claim yesterday that there simply wasn’t enough information to responsibly deploy forces to Libya at the time of the attack, sources on the ground claim that communication was open throughout the attack.

Indeed, one member of the CIA team who was on the roof of the annex was in possession of a laser to guide aerial targets including drones and repeatedly requested backup from a Specter gunship to take out an attacker firing mortars.

According to sources familiar with the situation, the operative had visual contact with the Libyan mortar team and in addition was able to pinpoint positions from where the consulate attackers were firing from.

Yesterday Leon Panetta claimed that he and General Martin Dempsey, chairman of the U.S. military’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, and General Carter Ham, head of the U.S. military’s Africa Command, felt they couldn’t ‘put forces at risk in that situation.’

‘This happened within a few hours and it was really over before, you know, we had the opportunity to really know what was happening,’ said Panetta.

Furthermore, Fox News has learned that there were two military surveillance drones above the skies of Benghazi during the attack which would have been able to relay real time visuals of the assault to U.S. officials in the White House situation room and the Pentagon.

Tyrone Woods and another former Navy SEAL Glen Doherty were killed by a mortar shell at 4 a.m. Libyan time, over six hours after the attack began and just one hour after relief from an American Quick Reaction Force sent from Tripoli had arrive.

This new information comes as President Barack Obama’s response to the attacks in Libya has become a contentious issue in the hard-fought U.S. presidential race, with Republican opponents raising questions about his administration’s truthfulness and competence.

Obama supporters have in turn accused Republicans of making unfounded accusations in an effort to score political points from the death of a U.S. ambassador and the three others killed in the Benghazi attack.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Republican John Boehner, asked in a letter to Obama on Thursday about whether military options and assets were offered ‘during and in the immediate aftermath of the terrorist attack.’

‘Can you explain what options were presented to you or your staff, and why it appears assets were not allowed to be pre-positioned, let alone utilized?’ Boehner asked.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta told Pentagon reporters that U.S. forces were on a heightened state of alert already because of the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington by al Qaeda.

In the aftermath of the attack, Panetta reminded reporters that the Pentagon deployed a Marine fleet anti-terrorist security team to Tripoli and had Navy ships off the coast.

‘And we were prepared to respond to any contingency. And certainly had forces in place to do that,’ he said.

The administration initially attributed the violence to protests over an anti-Islam film and said it was not premeditated. Obama and other officials have since said the incident was a deliberate terrorist attack.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has attributed the shifting explanation to ‘the fog of war.’

A State Department email made public this week showed that two hours after the attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission compound in Benghazi, the Department’s Operations Center advised officials at various U.S. agencies that a militant group called Ansar al-Sharia had claimed credit on Twitter and Facebook for the attacks.

U.S. officials, including Clinton, on Wednesday said that such Internet postings did not constitute hard evidence of who was responsible for the attacks.

The State Department has set up an independent review board to investigate the background and response to the attacks.

The U.S. Senate intelligence committee on Thursday said it will hold hearings in November – after the November 6 presidential election – on security and intelligence issues raised by the September 11 attack in Libya.

Why Are Police Beating up Disabled People?

We’ve nearly grown completely accustomed to a disturbing societal defect. More frequently, we witness sub-human treatment of disabled and elderly citizens and sufferers of medical illnesses by the very men and women sworn to serve and protect them.

From shoving cerebral palsy victims to dragging elderly women out of their vehicles to tasering stroke sufferers, the blind and pregnant women, corrupt police are being caught blatantly disregarding age and health conditions, trampling basic civil freedoms and essentially tossing logical discretion out the window when discerning law-abiding innocents from law-breaking criminals.

While we highlight these outrageous instances, we nevertheless maintain hope that a majority of our oath-sworn peace officers are good people capable of critical thinking and respectful of human life.

The month of October brought us more than its fair share of disabled citizen police state abuses.

Earlier this month, we reported on UK police tasering a blind man who was walking down the sidewalk minding his own business. The spontaneous attack sent the victim, Colin Farmer, a blind 61-year-old year old retired architect, to the hospital leaving him embittered at police for their actions. “He was not an officer of the law; he was an absolute thug with a license to carry a dangerous weapon,” Farmer remarked. The officer involved mistakenly perceived the man’s cane to be a samurai sword prior to the electrocution.

We also recently reviewed June 2010 footage of a Vancouver, British Columbia police officer shoving a cerebral palsy sufferer onto the ground for merely attempting to squeeze through a group of three officers walking side-by-side. Last week, we learned the victim was granted a 2013 hearing with the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal.

Earlier this month, a federal complaint against two officers of the Austin Police Department was filed alleging use of a Taser to shock a man suffering a seizure in his own home. The 50-year-old man’s complaint alleged the officers entered his home and “used violence to restrict him from movement, constrained his ability to breathe and repeatedly shocked him with a Taser gun.”

Also, last week the City of Cleburne, Texas reached an agreement with a man who was wrongfully Tasered back in April. When 19-year-old Ricky Jones refused to answer questions following an accident, officer Jason Vanderlaan issued a warning to comply, “Step out of the vehicle. Or I will tase you!” and made good on his promise, tasing the defiant deviant. Only after EMS arrived did officers learn Jones was diabetic and was non-compliant due to his undergoing a hypoglycemic seizure.

Judging by the numerous reports we’ve seen, some police also seem to have no problem harassing, picking fights or even killing less-mobile members of society.

Last month, we were baffled by a bizarre case in New Jersey where an on-duty police officer broke into the apartment of a wheelchair-bound couple, assaulted them along with their 4-year-old son, then, once in custody, kicked the window of the patrol car out enabling his escape until eventually captured. “Then he grabbed my grandchild (and) he said, ‘I want the boy, I want the boy,’” the female victim’s father, who didn’t witness the incident, recalled from his family’s account. When police arrived they found Sgt. Mark Lee sitting on a couch inside the apartment naked. The female victim’s father said, “He took his clothes off, gun, uniform, and pants, and tried to jump out the window.” A few days ago, Lee’s bail was reduced after a test found he had calcium deposits on his brain facilitating a neurological disorder.

In September, we witnessed footage of a Minnesota police officer punched a difficult, mouthy wheelchair-bound drunk man five times in the head before slamming him onto the floor and allegedly splitting his head open. The officer then threatened a nurse in attendance with arrest for merely offering assistance.

Last month, we also reported on Houston PD’s assassination of a wheelchair-ridden, schizophrenic double-amputee who threatened an officer with a pen. The officer who shot the man argued he believed the pen to be a dangerous weapon.

September also saw a 77-year old woman get dragged out of her car for failing to give an officer her license and insurance fast enough. As the officer’s lapel and dash-cam footage show, the woman simply attempted to provide an explanation for her alleged speeding. The officer shouted over the woman demanding her license and insurance, fomenting a verbal standoff eventually leading to the officer forcefully dragging the woman out of her car. The officer faced no disciplinary action.

In August, video surfaced of a July 1 altercation where Saginaw, Michigan police shot a homeless man 46 times. Moments prior, he was arguing with officers, wielding a knife. The man, 49-year-old Milton Hall, had been described as suffering from “serious mental health issues.”

Are these just a few freak instances that happened to be latched onto by media and exploited, or is the opposite true? Are these types of stories far too frequent to report?

By calling attention to the ongoing corruption, of which there is virtually countless more examples of, we hope to curb the problem, and encourage citizen journalists and whistleblowers everywhere to remain vigilant. We urge our civil servants to be mindful of their actions.

Whatever the excuses for these deplorable acts, we can assume the encroaching police state will successfully continue expanding unless we exercise utmost diligence to hinder it.

Texas Warns Globalist Vote Observers They May Be Arrested

Following a warning issued by the Attorney General of Texas that members of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) will be arrested and prosecuted if they violate state laws, the Obama administration has declared the international group above the law.

The United Nations affiliated group has dispatched election monitors from Europe and central Asia to polling locations around the United States to document “voter suppression activities by conservative groups,” The Hill reported last week. “Liberal-leaning civil rights groups met with representatives from the OSCE this week to raise their fears about what they say are systematic efforts to suppress minority voters likely to vote for President Obama.”

The OSCE plans to send observers to a number of states. Here is a list of the states targeted.

Democrats and liberal groups believe voter ID laws disenfranchise poor and minority voters while Republicans insist the laws prevent voter fraud. The Justice Department challenged the law after the Texas Legislature passed a photo-ID requirement. The federal government insists there is no requirement in Texas until a court case on the issue is resolved.

OSCE was contacted earlier this month by the NAACP, the ACLU and other liberal groups that believe conservatives will fix the election in favor of Republican Mitt Romney. A letter sent to OSCE official Daan Everts warns of “a coordinated political effort to disenfranchise millions of Americans — particularly traditionally disenfranchised groups like minorities.”

“The United Nations has no jurisdiction over American elections,” said Catherine Engelbrecht, founder and president of True the Vote, a group working against election fraud. “These activist groups sought assistance not from American sources, but from the United Nations.”

In the letter to Everts sent on October 23, Attorney General Abbott said “groups and individuals from outside the United States are not allowed to influence or interfere with the election process in Texas. This State has robust election laws that were carefully crafted to protect the integrity of our election system. All persons – including persons connected with OSCE – are required to comply with these laws.”

Abbott stated that OSCE representatives are not permitted to enter Texas polling places. “It may be a criminal offense for OSCE’s representatives to maintain a presence within 100 feet of a polling place’s entrance,” he said.

The Justice Department has set the stage for a confrontation. “I’m not going to get into any kind of hypothetical situations or predict where this is going to go other than to say we have every expectation that this will be worked out and to state the fact, which is that under U.S. law they are eligible for immunities,” said State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland. She said “the mandate of the OSCE is designed to be absolutely and completely impartial,” but would not explicitly state if the federal government considers it illegal for Texas to arrest OSCE personnel.

“Of course, the internationalist leaders of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the United Nations have no appreciation for the concept of state sovereignty,” writes Joe Miller on his Restoring Liberty blog. “Like most European socialists, they see national governments as supreme, free to dictate any directive to individual states. If they know anything about the US Constitution, they likely consider it hostile to their internationalist aims.”

Earlier this month, James O’Keefe of Project Veritas posted a video showing Stephanie Caballero – the Houston, Texas, regional field director for Obama’s “Organizing for America” – helping a dedicated Obama supporter vote twice. “The video ends with a montage of other Obama campaign workers reacting very warmly to the idea of casting more than one vote,” writes John Hayward of Human Events.

Man Jailed For Collecting Rainwater Begins Sentence

“I’m sacrificing my liberty so we can wake up as a country”

Paul Joseph Watson

An Oregon man sent to prison for collecting rainwater on his own property began the first day of his jail sentence with a warning that the American people need to stand up to a government that is operating completely outside the boundaries of common sense unless they wish to see liberty vanish.

After an 11-year battle with the state of Oregon, landowner Gary Harrington was found guilty under a 1925 law and sentenced to spend 30 days in jail for collecting rainwater in three “illegal reservoirs” despite the fact that they are on his property.

After refusing to follow an order to empty the “reservoirs” (which in reality are little more than large ponds), Harrington decided to follow through with the jail sentence as an example to other Americans as to how far the country has slipped from its constitutional values.

Harrington’s case has become a cause célèbre for Americans sick to the back teeth of big government interfering in property rights.

Flanked by protesters gathered outside of the Jackson County (Ore.) Jail, Harrington said he loved his country and was willing to go to jail “to get the truth out and restore freedom and common sense in America.”

Accusing Oregon state officials of failing to uphold their oath of office and pledge of allegiance, Harrington pointed out that citizens did not consent to be governed by those who fail to understand the rights enshrined in the constitution, adding that officials did not take into account the “historically understood” legal right to collect rain water during wet season.

Harrington pointed out that the state had broken their own law by issuing permits to individuals allowing them to divert water from public supplies, whereas Harrington was merely collecting rainwater that fell on his own property and was not taken from municipal supplies.

“Common sense is the basis for common law, without common sense, the law is insane and we did not agree to be governed by insanity or illegality,” said Harrington, adding that throughout American history, citizens have laid their lives down to preserve cherished rights.

“I’m sacrificing my liberty so that we can wake up as a country and stand for our liberty,” said Harrington, adding that his campaign had only just begun.

As we have documented, Harrington’s case is just one of dozens across the country that illustrate how the establishment is using draconian regulatory powers to eviscerate property rights and re-define Americans as de-facto feudal slaves with no inherent rights whatsoever.

This process is being carried out under the umbrella of the United Nations’ Agenda 21 project, which demands that member nations adopt “sustainable development” policies that are little more than a disguise for the reintroduction of neo-feudalism and only serve to reduce living standards and quality of life.

Opting out of “smart Meters”? You may get a visit from armed gunmen.

Smart meter or no power at all? Nevada energy sends armed men to disconnect power – just for opting out

  •   The Alex Jones Channel Alex Jones Show podcast Prison Planet TV Infowars.com Twitter Alex Jones' Facebook Infowars store

The Watchers
September 22, 2012

Nevada is supposedly one of those states with a smart meter ‘opt out’ policy. On the ground, however, the reality is a little different.

Mona Orkoulas lives in the mountains outside Las Vegas, Nevada, where she works in real estate. Like many Americans she has been impacted by the downturn in the economy and is struggling to make ends meet. Mona was born in the US and raised by an Egyptian/ Greek family. She has always paid her bills on time, and makes protecting her health a priority. For years Mona worked on humanitarian projects in the Middle East: drilling wells, and providing drinkable water and renewable power to remote villages. So she is familiar with the need for safe, reliable public services. Now, it turns out that she may need some humanitarian assistance herself — not in the developing world but right outside Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

The story starts when Nevada Energy (NVE) installed a ‘smart’ meter on Mona’s bedroom wall in January without permission, or even so much as a few days’ notice.

Mona reports that she does not have any prior history of medical issues. Shortly after NV Energy installed the smart meter, she started noticing an increase in her heart rate first thing in the morning and an elevated blood pressure. She felt fatigued, and started having headaches. A low grinding sound had started when the meter was installed and this made it difficult for Mona to sleep, or even be in her own home during the day. She tried different things to get rid of the symptoms, but nothing worked. Finally it dawned on her: the only thing which had changed in her life was the meter. When she started researching the issue, she realized she was not alone. Others were experiencing the same annoying humming grinding sound, the same adverse health impacts — and linking it to recent smart meter installations. She has amassed a whole binder of studies about the negative effects of EMF’s on health.

A letter from Mona’s doctor to NV Energy reads:

Neurological and cardiological findings may be associated with pulsed EMF… EEG, ECG, MRI and sleep study changes may be associated in some hypersensitive individuals to pulsed EMF. If multiple Smart meters are in use in her area, the possibility of constructive and destructive interference between the various EMF signals is a distinct possibility whose effects may be potentially more dangerous. I recommend that this patient be allowed to have NVE reinstall an analog meter at her house.

So she called the power company, expecting that they would remove the unsanctioned meter right away — or at least come out and do an analysis to find out what was causing the grinding noise. Months later, frustrated after at least six failed attempts to have NVE address the problem, Mona finally purchased a standard analog meter and had an electrician install it at her residence. She carefully photographed and recorded the readings on the old and new meter, to be sure that she paid for every kilowatt-hour used. She attempted to return the unwanted smart meter to NVE offices, but was turned away.

On August 6th, at about 10:30am, three men from Nevada Energy, armed with guns, arrived unannounced on her property, removed the analog meter from the socket, took her analog meter as well as the unauthorized smart meter she had removed, and left her living without electricity. One of the men identified himself as an investigator with the company and said that he was investigating her for “criminal tampering.”

She was in tears, visibly shaken by the encounter, and recalls asking the men, “Why are you on my property with guns?” Their response: “this is procedure Ma’am.” (If this has become the “procedure” then we need to act to stop this kind of utility intimidation and abuse.)

More than a month later, the lights are still off and Mona hasn’t budged. “They’re not putting that thing back on my house,” she says.

We asked Angel de Fazio, who has been on the front lines working to fight NVE’s smart meter program, what is going on here? Doesn’t Nevada have an ‘opt out’ choice?

Angel says “Nevada residents only won the right to be placed on the ‘delay list’, not a full ‘opt out’.”

In other words, if you wised up before the installation trucks came and still have your analog, NVE has a ‘delay list’ you can sign to ‘delay’ your installation date. But if the power company managed to sneak on your property and install a smart meter — even without permission — then your choice is a smart meter or no power at all, as Mona discovered. Even if you have a letter from your doctor, the power company apparently thinks it knows best what’s good for you.

While awareness about smart meter problems has been greater in states like California, Maine, and several other states, the “take a smart meter or lose your power” policy remains quietly in force in other states where awareness may not be as widespread. However, people in these states (like Mona) have had enough and are standing up to the utility industry in increasing numbers.

Angel tells Stop Smart Meters! that Nevada’s opt out proceeding has been a sham. “The Nevada PUC will be holding hearings on October 3rd-5th to determine which of the ‘non-transmitting’ meters they will trial to replace people’s analogs and how much they will charge for the ‘privilege’. Even the ‘right’ to have a non-transmitting meter is under threat.” In other words, there may be no official ‘opt out’ at all unless people organize and make more noise.

“NVE has conned the PUC into believing that only a certain number of people can opt out or their Federal Stimulus Grant will be in jeopardy. That is a lie,” Angel says.

NVE has been calling people on the ‘delay list’ who want to ‘opt out’ and repeatedly pressuring them to accept a smart meter. The company admitted that they lied to utility customers, telling them that the meters are federally mandated (which they are not), and telling people their power would be cut if they didn’t accept the meter (which they do not have the legal authority to do). Similar stories abound about other utilities including Southern California Edison, Detroit Edison, Duke Energy, and Oncor.

Now NVE is accusing Mona of tampering with their equipment, which she says is ridiculous, because she gave them plenty of opportunity to remove the problematic smart meter. “I had no intention of stealing electricity,” she says. “I just wanted the grinding noise and headaches to stop.”

California Penal code defines “tampering” as:

(carrying out)(1) specified acts with the intent to obtain utility serviceswithout paying the full charge, or with the intent to enable another person to do so, or with the intent to deprive any utility of its full lawful charges for utility services.”

Nevada laws are similar. Despite this, NVE claims that Mona “tampered” with the meter and are now charging her hundreds of dollars in fees and forcing her to obtain an expensive County inspection. For the last month, Mona has been ‘camping’ in her house, unable to use her appliances, lights or hot water. The laundry that was in the washing machine when they cut her power was locked in, and by the time she could get it out it was totally destroyed by mildew. The NVE agents came without warning.

Mona has borrowed a gas generator that she uses for an hour a day, but she’s worried that this is a fire hazard in the forest where she lives. The power cut has had a devastating effect on her life, she says. “My business has taken a nosedive since I have had to travel into town to access my e-mails. I can’t use my computer, fax machine, or any lights. I’m cooking over a camp stove in my living room.”

Back in December, Stop Smart Meters! raised more than $1000 from supporters like you to help families who had been cut off by PG try to have a decent Christmas. These donations helped people through a difficult time, and the outpouring of community support gave them strength to take back their power from the utility. In part because of the strength of these families who refused to accept a forced smart meter (or a ‘non-transmitting’ meter), we now have an official analog ‘opt out’ policy in California. It’s extortion for sure, but it’s better than the policies they still have in places like Nevada.

Mona doesn’t know what she’s going to do, and was even thinking for a time about allowing a smart meter back on her home — at least for the time being. “Winter comes in these mountains a month before everywhere else,” she says.

It’s hard to stomach the fact that in 2012 in the United States, men with guns from a private corporation and no warrant show up and threaten us for not accepting a hazardous device on our homes. As a community we must come together and reject these Gestapo tactics. Under the US Constitution, we have a right to be safe and sovereign in our homes. If you turn a blind eye while the rights of your friends and neighbors are being violated, they may be at yourhouse next.

We’ve been speaking with Mona and she doesn’t want to give in to NVE. She’s willing to rough it, to protect her health and to prove a point to the utility and to America — if that’s the way the utilities are going to behave, maybe we’re better off without them!

Mona says “Some of us eat organic foods, buy our nice bottled waters, exercise daily, but where is the point in all of this wellness when we are forced to have a radiation box attached to our homes?”
